Description
Dukkah (pronounced doo-kah), is a Middle Eastern mixture of toasted nuts, seeds, and savoury spices. It’s believed to
have originated in Egypt. It’s always vegan and normally gluten free. Dukkah is derived from the Arabic word “to pound” or crush.
Dukkah can be used for seasoning vegetables, crusting meat and fish, and adding to olive oil for dipping bread.
Considered a Middle Eastern fast food! Street vendors in Cairo will give you this spice mix in a paper cup, with strips of
pita bread. You dip the oil-brushed bread into the Dukkah.Eating it that way is modern, but the history of Dukkah dates back thousands of years.
